Placemaking mastery, intelligent design and a profound responsibility to the location’s special heritage and natural environment combined to create the award-winning Wedgwood Park.
This 20-acre gated community of converted and new-build apartments and family homes took shape within a historic 18th century mansion house and across its parkland.
Named after its former resident, horticulturalist John Wedgwood of the pottery dynasty, it epitomises the semi-rural setting, being close to Abergavenny town centre, bordered by open countryside and on the fringe of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
From the outset we wanted to create a rounded, sustainable community with a peaceful village feel that offered the ultimate 21st Century lifestyle in historic 19th Century surroundings. So, we brought a variety of the contemporary homes we’re known for to distinct, linked areas within the parkland.
The Manor House comprises five spacious and distinctive apartments; The Mews, a mix of new-build homes and converted outbuildings; The Grange, an exclusive development of traditional style family homes; and The Meadow is five luxury family houses set within the parkland. We also partnered with Monmouthshire Housing Association to develop ten affordable retirement apartments and two affordable retirement bungalows.
Much of the land has been retained as open space for exclusive use by residents. While the family homes have their own, substantial gardens, we replanted the Victorian walled gardens, and created beautiful woodland trails retained from the original estate as well as a picnic/barbecue area for all residents to enjoy.
