Downsizers enjoy a new lease of life in a new bungalow

Lifestyle- enhancing is one couple’s verdict on moving to a new bungalow built by the team behind a new community in Sampford Peverell.

New bungalows are few and far between, but we’re addressing demand for single level properties, building them in various locations.

Jenny and Howard Lewis downsized from a four-bedroom detached house to a three-bedroom Budleigh style Edenstone bungalow like the ones at The Orchards in Sampford Peverell.

“It was our family home but was too big now that we’re in our 70s. We wanted a smaller property that’s easy to manage and energy efficient rather than having to worry about maintenance and cleaning,” Jenny recalled.

“We wanted a fresh start in a home that suits our lifestyle. We looked at older bungalows, but they weren’t suitable.”

From the front, the Budleigh looks traditional, but step inside and it has a real wow factor with open plan living spaces and double-height windows that go into the apex to offer lots of natural light and emphasise the sense of space.

The main bedroom benefits an en-suite, with the family bathroom serving the other two bedrooms.

“From the moment we stepped in the door of the Budleigh we were sold. It has lovely church style windows and a thoughtfully designed open plan space,” Jenny explained.

“It doesn’t feel like a traditional bungalow. It’s practical and accessible, helping us future proof ourselves.”

Jenny described the Edenstone team as “amazing”.

“From the first visit the team were warm and professional – there was no pressure, just support.  Nothing was too much trouble. They discussed everything with us and kept us in the loop,” Jenny said.

“After we moved in, they checked everything was ok and dealt with any questions. It really made a difference with a smaller builder. It became personal – we weren’t just another number. We felt really looked after.”

The Budleigh is Jenny and Howard’s fourth new build home.

“Our bills are much less because our previous home was much larger. The property itself is so warm and comfortable. It suits us down to the ground. Its everything we wanted. Our quality of life has improved since moving,” Jenny, who lives on an Edenstone development in Ross on Wye, said. “It’s our forever home. If we did move again, it would be another Edenstone home. They think about the customer not just the building. If someone wants quality, comfort and a builder who understands its buyers, I’d absolutely recommend Edenstone. Their homes are so well designed and their customer care is exemplary.”

A three-bedroom Budleigh style bungalow at The Orchards, an award-winning sustainable development in Sampford Peverell, is available from £518,995.
