NEW homes in Dinas Powys will launch ‘off plan’ in response to consumer demand as Edenstone Homes helps address a local housing shortage.

Known as The Woodlands, the development on Cross Common Road, will feature 50 new homes, the first of which will be available to reserve from the end of September.

The village location and commuter links to nearby Cardiff, along with Edenstone’s reputation as a premium homebuilder, mean that potential purchasers have been keen to find out more about the properties. Hundreds of people have registered their interest in the homes, including first-time buyers, downsizers, professionals and families.

Martin Taylor, managing director for Edenstone Homes, said: “There has been a scarcity of new development in and around Cardiff over the last 10-15 years, while at the same time the population has grown. As Edenstone is an independent, privately owned housebuilder, we are able to take a more flexible approach to the size of sites we will develop and the types of homes we will build. This puts us in a good position to be able to help tackle the housing shortage and provide much-needed new homes.

“The level of enquiries we have received about the homes at The Woodlands is an indicator of the housing need in the area. As a direct response to the demand we will be releasing the first phase of properties ‘off plan’, with a show home due to open later in the year.”

The Woodlands will offer three and four-bedroom properties, available to buy on the open market. As part of the extension to the neighbourhood, Edenstone will also build affordable homes including a mix of social rent and intermediate rental properties.

All of the homes will be built to the high specification and quality Edenstone has earned its reputation for. Red brick, render and stone, along with slate grey roof tiles, will combine to create properties that look great and neatly fit with the surroundings.

Edenstone has also agreed substantial investment in the local community as part of the development, with funding for schools and sustainable transport. Edenstone will also provide a fully-equipped play area on site and make a public art contribution.“The development itself backs on to Shortlands Wood and so we’ve taken inspiration from this setting in choosing the name of the scheme,” Martin explained.

“Homes at The Woodlands will enjoy a location that enables residents to embrace village living, while only four miles from the centre of Cardiff. The local train station is close by, making it a great base for commuting into the city. Plus, the area has some well-regarded schools and the centre of the village is home to a selection of stores and eateries.”

The first homes at The Woodlands will be released for sale from the end of September.
